Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation’s The Learning Centre for Hamilton The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation is working to open the Learning Centre for Hamilton. Presently there are eight Learning Centres across Canada that provide free one-on-one tutoring to children who have been identified as having Dyslexia. Dyslexia is a disorder that prevents the brain from processing information to allow a child to read, write and comprehend at a normal level, which ultimately causes the student to fall behind their peers. The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation Learning Centres for Children uses a specific approach to tutoring that has been successful in assisting these special needs children, to first learn to read and ultimately graduate by reading to learn. The Orton-Gillingham Approach has been shown to “rewire the brain” in order to overcome these difficulties unique to Dyslexic children. As you might appreciate, this is a huge undertaking that requires considerable funding to start up, and then a sustainable funding to operate annually. Our immediate need is for start-up funding. Please consider including the Learning Centre for Hamilton in your list of charities.
