URGENT MESSAGE!!!

Can You Help a Brother?

On the day I was to retire I received the news that I had Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Since being admitted to hospital I have received 15 blood and platelet transfusions. Now I am on the receiving end of those Masonic Blood Donor clinics. We as Masons do good work in the community.  However I would like to challenge you to take it one step further. I would like to encourage you to enroll in the "One Match" program, the Stem Cell and Marrow Network. You see I am in need of a stem cell donor. Even if you are not a match with me, you can possibly help save someone's life.

Registering is easy. Click on either of the links below.

www.OneMatch.ca    or   www.blood.ca  for more information.

All it takes is a swab of your cheek or a blood test.

Hopefully a matching donor can be found for me before my time runs out.

S&F,

Bro. Ray A. Young

P.D.D.G.M. Hamilton District B

"It will never happen to me".  How many times have we heard or thought this phrase?

Unfortunately for some it becomes "I can't believe this has happened to me".

Recently in our District, we have been made aware of at least two brethren who have received the gift of life from Blood Donations. I am sure many more have not been forthcoming with their need as a personal choice. Very recently R. W. Bro. Ray Young, P.D.D.G.M. Hamilton District B shared that he required 15 blood and platelet transfusions for his diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

"So what can you do?"

Many are not aware that there is more to giving blood than just making a donation. Canadian Blood Services also run a program called "One Match"

The following is an excerpt from their web site:

Men have the power to Give Life.

Last year 50% of stem cell donors chosen were young me... Yet they account for only 20% of the stem cell registry.

Males are more likely to be chosen as donors because they offer better patient outcomes post-transplant.

Patients are calling on all 17 to 35 year old men to register to be stem cell donors.

Join the Give Life movement today and register to be a stem cell donor.

R. W. Bro. Ray Young is in need of a stem cell donor. Even if you are not a match with him, you can possibly save someone's life.

"But I am unable to give blood."

Not everyone is a candidate for donating blood. You can donate money to Canadian Blood Services and they are always looking for volunteers. We as a District do a good job of sponsoring clinics, but there is more to volunteering:

VOLUNTEER ROLES

What Would I Be Doing?

As a volunteer, you can help save a life by supporting Canadian Blood Services in one of the following areas:

IN-CLINIC VOLUNTEERS

VOLUNTEER LEADERS

IN-COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

SPEAKER'S BUREAU MEMBERS

ABO TYPER

Brethren, Can you help a Brother?  Yes you can in more than one way.

Please share this email with your friends and family. Let's get the word out there. As Mason's it is our obligation to support our fellow brethren.  It's is also our custom to assist our neighbors and the general public when possible.

Please remember:

Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

W. Bro. Sean Straughan

District B Blood Donors Chairman.

Submitting Photographs for our Website or District B's Facebook Page

Brethren are encouraged to submit photos pertaining to their own Lodges, as well as other events happening throughout the Hamilton Districts. When taking photographs, please consider taking a couple of quick notes depicting who are in the photographs, along with their Masonic rank and lodge name/number, etc. and provide us with the information when you send Bro. Ajai Datta, or myself photographs for posting on the Hamilton 'B' website, and Facebook page. We do know a few people in an around the district, however, there are times our minds go "blank".  It saves us a great deal of time hunting down the missing information.  But, most importantly, we would like to ensure that we fully recognize the individuals in the photographs, as a person's correct name and spelling is very important.
